30 Before 30: Blog Categories

This is an update to my 30 before 30 goals. I have successfully gone through all 500+ entries on my blog and placed them in appropriate categories (I’m trying to keep it simple too). It was quite easily the simplest goal of the 30, so at least I have one item off the list.

Here are some things I learned while going through all these entries.

  1. From 2005 to 2003 I sound crazy, bizarre and can’t spell at all.
  2. Sometime after 2006 I seemed to gain a few more brain cells (a few).
  3. I seemed to have constant struggles with mental lows and highs.
  4. Sometimes my spelling is still pretty bad. :p
  5. I am not going to try and organise my tags, because they are just doing their own thing…

Now, just 29 more goals before I turn 30 on the 11th of March 2017.

Questions:

  1. When did you first start blogging?
  2. How far back do your blog entries go on your current blog?
  3. Have you changed since your first entries?

  • Organizing things feels gooooooooood!

    • Kya

      It does. :D

  • Ooh, it feels nice doesn’t it? Organization is amazing :) Was it difficult to determine which categories to use? I know I struggle with naming mine…

I have archives dating back to 2009, and especially the first years are all over the place, and my English was horrible. Sometimes I toy with the idea to just scrap everything and start over! :P

    • Kya

Sometimes it is a little difficult to work out which category the older entries fit into. Because some of them could be all over the place, where lately I tend to post specific topic posts now. xD

I know what you mean about scraping things sometimes. I did that in I think 2012, but made backups of everything. xD

  • Oh! Organization is something awesome, even if I struggle all the time keeping stuff organized. >0D

I have archives dated back to 2014 *hides in a corner* but I actually blog since 2008. Changed? Me? Yes, I changed a lot during these years, and I decided it would have been better to spare the world with my previous self because I can’t really relate with that person anymore. I do love starting anew sometimes! |)

    • Kya

It can be nice to start fresh. :D

  • I just sorted out the categories on my blog too. Fortunately I don’t have 500 posts to sort so it didn’t take me too long!

I started blogging 5 years ago but I’ve only been at empfire for two years. This means my archives only date back to 2012. I wish I had kept a copy of my posts from my old blogs.

My writing has changed completely since I started blogging. I still can’t spell but I’m sure I will always be bad at spelling!

    • Kya

It’s one of those things that you just never think about at the time, or sometimes you don’t. When I had my first LiveJournal I wish I had of made backups of entries before I terminated it. But I just thought it was so good to get rid of it. xD

That is good that you at least have backups from 2012. :D You can always use the waybackmachine to try and get some previous posts too. :D

  • Congrats on completing your first thing on that list! Its insane that you still have your blog entries from that long ago – all my old blogs are long forgotten, thank god. I started blogging when I was 12, so 2006 or so, but luckily my blog only covers from April 2013. I’d hate to be able to find those first few posts, but with 8 years under my belt I can safely say I’ve definitely changed, haha.

    • Kya

Wow, you had been blogging from a young age. I can’t imagine that they would fit with your blog now anyway. xD

  • Great job in completing your first item on the list. I don’t think I will be determined enough to complete such a list if I ever made one though. |)

    • Kya

      Thank you. :D

  • I don’t even want to look back to my old entries, haha. Wonder what for crazy kind of things I did when it comes to grammer mistakes, haha! But it’s always good to check and sort things out ;)

    xxx

    • Kya

I agree, it can be. :D

  • I would probably die from embarrassment if I read through all my old blog posts. Good thing I didn’t keep them. LOL!

    • Kya

It can be a bit scary. xD

  • I lost most of my blog posts from my domain before 2013. I have started being more careful about backing up stuff. My spelling sucks too, even with Chrome spell checking I still find tons of mistakes when I go back through old posts lol.

    • Kya

I have been lucky in the past, in that I have made backups before things have happened. But it is a really really good thing to be in the habit of doing. Because things can happen and you can loose entries or data. :(

  • Nice determination you got there. I hope you can fulfill all that is in your list :)

I can’t remember when was the first time I stepped into the whole blogging thing but I remember how disorganized my blog was and how stupid and trashy my words were, not saying that I now write like a pro or anything but my entries used to be all over the place; no categories, no specialization and sometimes too personal and emotional for my own good. Now, I guess I can say I’m at the very least better in it; I know what my blog will/is going to talk about, how I will have to arrange my words and stuff.

I never wrote with super awful grammar or spelling error though but my entries used to flow pretty randomly. as I read more books and learn how to construct word per word better, I think I know how to let my words flow smoother and of course, better for the eyes. so far I’ve been constantly moving – changing domains, changing host quite few times before settling down with a paid domain of myself. not to mention moving from wordpress to blogger to wordpress again. back then I even still used really bad CMS like cutenews! Haha then I grew by learning how to install wordpress and stuff.

I can’t exactly recall what I talked about on my first entry though. one thing for sure, I used to spill 100% words on my blog. no pictures, just words and then they got super wordy and long and boring. the only thing that doesn’t really change is me not making spelling errors; i always try to google first if I’m not sure I remember some words correctly. spelling and grammar matter a lot to me and spelling errors tend to cost me my pride :P

    • Kya

You have obviously learned a lot and grown in the time when you first started too and that is a good thing. I think we just, over time find what is more us and what is more interesting to ourselves as well. :D

  • This is one of the greatest parts of having a blog.. To reflect on past events and see how you have changed. If you have not changed at all, then something is probably wrong. I am glad you have gained a few more brain cells (JUST KIDDING).

When did you first start blogging?: I have been blogging for about 14 years.

How far back do your blog entries go on your current blog?: The year 0 (actually it is a glitch that I still need to fix. HAHA.) They go back to 2006.

Have you changed since your first entries?: From 2006, it doesn’t seem to be that noticeable of a difference, but I did probably sound more angry then. However, if I look at entries from further back that were not able to be transferred to my current blog, then I sounded even more angry, and and I was so ADD, even I had trouble keeping up with myself.

Oh, and I posted this in my blog not SO long ago — Okay, it was in 2012, but I haven’t blogged that much since then (it’s similar to what you did):

I noticed that I am currently both very much the same and very different from how I appeared to be in my blog posts from years ago.

Some things that haven’t really changed are as follows:

I am honest. This is a quality (which can be good, bad and/or misunderstood) that I have had since I was a child.

I tend to be thorough yet efficient. I try to cover as many details as I can in order to get my idea or point across without the need for questions.

I am a loner yet can effectively lead groups when I want or need to.

I am reflective and contemplative, yet can also be rash if I feel rushed or impatient.

I don’t really like talking about myself and can therefore be elusive.

Some differences (which I believe are probably interrelated) are as follows:

I am not as much of a spastic perfectionist and planner as I once was. I guess you could say I am now more of a go-with-the-flow kind of perfectionist/planner.

I am not as passionate and do not have as much drive as I used to. I believe this has a lot to do with difficult situations in my life that have bogged me down emotionally and physically. Another cause is probably the fact that I have been consumed by responsibilities that I did not use to have. Money, for one thing, is not something I ever really wanted to concern myself with, but now, as the sole financial provider for my family, I have to concern myself with it. I never wanted to deal with it because I find it stupid that the majority of the world is driven by it. I believe that everyone should be able to live without having to spend their time and effort accumulating and giving away paper and metal.

I am not as caring as I used to be. Rough times have taken their toll on me, but this is something I am trying to work on. I remember when I used to be the person that people went to with their problems. Now, I have become more of a cold hermit that is too absorbed by her own troubles.

    • Kya

Aw, did I not gain any? X_X

Blogging in the year 0 is pretty impressive. I think, this could be like a major record. Seriously.

Damn. That was posted in 2012. It seems like only yesterday that I was reading it.

  • Congratulations on getting through one of your goals of 30 before 30! You can do it, Kya! I know you can! :D

I bet you loved the fact that you could look back on your first blogs and saw how you typed and what was bothering you then and just see how much you’ve grown. That is my favorite part of owning a blog and a journal! :)

    • Kya

I do like being able to do that. :D

  • I first started blogging back in the days of piczo, probably when I was 12? and my current entires go as far back as 2011! Woowee. And I definitely have, a lot of things have happened to me since that time. You can do the 30 before 30 list!! I might do 25 before 25, as I’m only 20.

    • Kya

I remember that site and so many people that had accounts on it (I had a lot of people from there join Bubble). That is a good idea to do the 25 before 25. :D

  • Oooomggg well done Kya! Organisation always feels good, especially when related to something you love, like blogging. Congratulations on completing one thing on your 30 Before 30 list. :D

I remember when I fixed up the categories on my blog. It felt really good. There were a lot of categories I no longer wrote about, or seemed ridiculous. Tags, I decided to delete. They turned out to be all over the place. I guess ultimately I was trying to get rid of anything really unnecessary, that wouldn’t really be used or help people find things on my blog. I’m glad you included a list of things you discovered and learned, because it’s always interesting to see what you found out from achieving a personal goal. I think that with reflection, particularly with writing, we notice how mood changes in our writing. Sometimes we have pretty bad days. I know I used to write about some very deep, emotional things, but now I avoid that, or maybe I’m just happier so I don’t need to write about it. :3

When did you first start blogging?
I started blogging in 2002-2003… it was a very long time ago. I blogged on LiveJournal but moved around a fair bit.

How far back do your blog entries go on your current blog?
They go back until 2009! That was when I began using WordPress and was still on my old domain heartdrops.org. I wish I had moved the previous entries but they were on another system. :B

Have you changed since your first entries?
Yes, definitely. I write about different things now, and my posts are less frequent and longer. I used to post every day and use a lot of emoticons and write a bit like a child. Then again, I am sure we all mature through our writing over the years, no matter how old we are.

    • Kya

      <3

  • That’s quite the accomplishment. Well done! I’m sure recategorizing those posts must’ve taken some time, given the sheer number.

In response to your questions, I’ve blogged on and off for ~10 years, but my current blog has been running since January of this year. If I were to take all my entries [from even past blogs] into account, I know I’ve changed. I have become more intuitive, calms, and wiser. I mean, I certainly hope so…from 13 to 23, one would hope that person has matured in some way shape or form. xD

    • Kya

Hahaha. Yeah, you would hope so. xD

  • Congratulations on sorting 500+ of your posts! I can imagine the trip to memory lane. I sorted through 300+ posts the other month and it was quite a trip for me, haha. We all have our phases whether it’s us spelling things weird or having weird styles or something. Good luck with the rest of your goals :)!

I started blogging back in 2007….. But my current blog goes as far back as August 2010. And I definitely changed since my first entries with regards to my writing style/grammar and whole personality. I take things in life more serious now *_*.

    • Kya

Having entries from 2010 is still four years worth of blog posts which is quite awesome. :D

  • Oh my goodness, if I hadn’t deleted everything from my blog this year to start fresh? Going through and organizing all of my posts… holy cow, they went back to 1997! You have so much more drive and follow through than I do, I swear. Congrats on getting it all done! :)

    • Kya

Wow! Going through blog posts from that long would have been a real trial!

  • That’s great that you got one goal completed.

I’ve been blogging since my teens. Not sure how far back my blogging goes, but I’ve noticed my entries aren’t as terribly negative as they used to be. I mean, they still are, but it was worse back then.

    • Kya

I am glad to hear that they are not as negative as they once where. Maybe for you personally it would be a healthier thing, if you are not feeling as much that way.
