Crafting a book

I have been wanting to write a book for over ten years and I will admit that I am disappointed that I haven’t made a huge amount of effort in that time to make it a reality. I am going to change that. I found that previously I always had an excuse for why I hadn’t worked on it; lack of inspiration, needing to practice more, scared of how to actually go about doing it, etc. I could continue to create a million more reasons to block myself, but if I want to really following my dream of being published again and having my own book it’s time to be serious.

I am creating a children’s book. It has two primary characters a boy and his toy giraffe. The book explores how we use imagination and how as we get older we also loose it. Rather then create just a simple story that is light and fluffy I want to try and create something that has a deeper voice, perhaps with a greater moral visibility.

So far in the process I have created the first written draft of the structure of the story as well as began creating the rough ideas for what the boy character will look like. Once I have created several more drafts I will then began setting out the style of the book and organising for an ISBN and publication. There will certainly be a physical book but I am considering an eBook version as well, which I would have to research into a bit to find out the structure (but will not use excuses).

I am excited about this because I am finally allowing myself to move forward.

Have you ever created your own book?
Have you ever wanted to create a book but been confused as well?

Kya

I’ve wanted to write a book too, but mine is going to be a novel. I have been working on it for the past year (though it seems like less) and I guess I’m about halfway through. I’m mostly concerned about publishing. I definitely want it published so if no one likes my book I’m still willing to self-publish it. I’m mostly worried at how the public will judge it, I guess. Writing a book takes a lot of time, but good luck with yours! <3

Wow writing a book sounds fun, i have thought about it a few times when i get inspired by books or authors but i gotta say its not a passion for me or anything that i would really want to do, but who knows maybe i would do it just for fun one day he he ^^

Oh, that sounds lovely! I wish you all the best with your book! :D I wrote a children’s book back in high school, did the illustrations and everything. I meant to someday try and get it published, but I kind of forgot about it. I’d want to re-do the illustrations now if I ever tried since I think they suck now. haha.

Writing is a thing I’m only recently thinking about. I don’t think I read enough to write good stuff.
I’m so curious to know how writing/publishing books works. What if a publisher is not interested in it? There’s this girl here in Brazil (babidewet.com) that released her book totally independent from any publishers. She’s pretty popular but I don’t know if she sells a good number of books.

I totally support you wherever the situation leads your book. I’m sure it’s awesome and everything’s going to love it!

It sounds like such a cute idea! Good luck turning it into a reality. :)

I’ve thought about writing a book in the past a couple of times, though I was never really too serious about it. If I did write a book though, I doubt it would be fiction.

It sounds wonderful Kya, I too have been wanting to write a book, though i don’t know when I will find the time. I’m planning to use NanoWrimo to get a draft done that I can then go back over again and again to perfect :)

Kyabean! I am excited for you, too. I am so very happy you have finally put your foot forward and are taking the steps to publish your book. I would love to publish a book one day. Like you, it has been a dream for a very long time, ever since I started to read books seriously as a child. I’d like to share my story with someone, even if I publish it anonymously, I’d like to make a world and invite others into it. I would love to be a part of your world. :)
