A personal blog of a creatively curious girl named Kya.

Another year is almost over and 2014 is knocking on our doors! Hopefully it can be a year where we all welcome the visitor, who will bring many positive gifts.

For me, 2013 was a kind of a difficult year. Not as traumatic as 2012 was, but it was still hard. I faced a lot of challenges with mental health, lost a friend to suicide, lost my dear grandparents dog and lived in a numb daze a lot of the time. However, I was lucky in that I had my parents there for me and two good noodles friends named Nicole and Claire who put up with my craziness and for some strange reason still wanted to be friends. Siriusly Seriously though, they really helped me in so many ways and inspired to give me hope.

What do I want for 2014? I mainly hope that I can settle and try to find stability. I don’t want to make major plans for the future until I am at a place where I am thinking clearly and can handle all that goes with major decisions (take 2012, where I thought my only option was to start a business). I hope that I will reach out for help and keep striving to get to a good place while also still working on creative projects and sharing love with the people I care about.

Now for some kind of random things. :B

Dad and I played our annual cricket game that we have been playing for over 15 years. He had a bit of a winning streak, so I had to fight hard (not really, it’s all about the fun of the game and just spending that time together doing something we have done for a long time). This year mum even played too (and snapped a lot of photos).

The last sunset of 2013 was very beautiful as we played our cricket game.

Finally, I thought I would end on some random facts from my entertainment I have consumed this year.

In 2013 I read 22 books and The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson was my favorite (It was pretty close, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne was awesome too).

In 2013 I watched 323 movies and Beasts of the Southern Wild was my favorite.

In 2013 I listened to 685 tunes and Same Love by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis was my favorite with Roar by Katy Perry the most played.

Have a great 2014!

I am glad you looked on 2013 positively despite the bad things that happened. Starting a business is exciting but it can also be very difficult (as I am sure you have learned!). You have a lot of talent and skills that can send you in many different directions, so your options are definitely not limited. :) I’m glad you had a lovely end of year and wish you a great 2014. <3

You watched so many movies! I am impressed. XD

  • Silver says:

Happy New Year Kya! *hugs* It’s going to be a better year ahead! I wish you and your loved ones a good fortune, health, happiness, filled with love throughout the days to come. I am thankful to have you in my life! *squishes* Love you darling. <3

  • Sara says:

I didn’t know you play cricket, Kya! I loved cricket when I was at school. I seemed to be the only girl who loved cricket also. Haha!

    Happy new year Kya!
My plan for the new year is…just to keep on knitting!

  • Evelyn says:

Wooooow! That’s a whole lot of movies! I watched 29 hahahaha! Most of them on January before the awards season.

You play cricket?! I watched a cricket game and I had a lot of fun but I have no idea about the rules hehehe!

Your future is bright and I’m sure great things are coming in the next year <3

    • Kya says:

It is a lot of fun watching the movies for the awards season. Last year I went on a mad rush to try and watch them all in time, but I never did. Hopefully I can this year! :D

  • Crystal says:

Hope you have a great new year! Take it one step at a time! :)

  • Nicole says:

I am glad that I could help you in some ways. And you have helped me as well. It is good that we can help eachother even when we live so far away. I hope that thigns will continue to improve for you.

I also want to say that I think it is really cool that your mom played cricket with you guys. AndI guess she is loving her camera! Ah, yes… playing is what matters the most… yadda yadda yadda… But who won the game?!! O’DOYLE RULES!

Keep yourself busy and focused, but still be a little silly, and try to figure out why you always getting sick from your food! Siriusly.

I am done because this is going to go crazy soon.

  • Melissa says:

Happy new year! I wish you a good year in 2014! :)

  • Alice says:

Happy New Year, my dear! May 2014 be better than all your years before.

I know what you mean about not wanting to make any massive resolutions, I end up being to flaky to make mine work. (Although, I am giving up diet coke….. again…. so maybe I’ll stick to that.)

  • Jamie says:

Happy New Years Kya! I’m so glad that you were able to look back on the year 2013 despite the many obstacles of life that was thrown your way. Keep that positivity going!

Reading is really good and challenges the mind — especially if you’re reading Science. I started getting back into the reading habit due to my boyfriend. And, for one, I am glad he did. I have given Stephen King a try and so far I am liking what I am reading. I also read R.L.Stine’s adult version of “Red Rain”, and was a tad disappointed due to him cursing and what not. It threw me off track, and I never went back to it. So it looks as though everything in your neck of the woods is going great and I’m happy about that!

Another thing that happened — we started communicating more and more, and you created blogmatter which I love to death! Thank you for creating such a wonderful site! I do hope that your year of 2014 will remain positive, and that whatever life throws at you, you can continue to dodge it with positivity.

I do understand your want for stability because it’s something I wanted for a really long time. I hope 2014 offers you more happiness and enjoyment than you can handle. I also want to see more of your art! Your Christmas card was amazing!

    • Kya says:

I didn’t think I listened to that much music. Maybe because I used to listen to it all of the time. What can I say about the movies.. I’m a fan? :D ahah.

  • AnneMarie says:

Happy New Year! (: Sounds like you’ve had one crazy 2013 but here’s to 2014!

And I’ve never played Cricket nor do I know how it works. I’ll have to look that one up. The sunset you played under looks beautiful though. I love sunsets.

I never read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas but I watched the movie of it. It was tragic. ><

Also, in response to your comment, 8oz is always a treat! If you're ever in Seattle, definitely treat yourself to it! (:

  • Sofie says:

What a 2013 you have had. I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that, and I really hope 2014 will be an absolutely amazing year for you. “Hopefully it can be a year where we all welcome the visitor, who will bring many positive gifts.” I love this. That is a perfect way to sum-up what I hope to do this year, and what an inspiring way to phrase it.

  • Jamie says:

I’m sure you can get that business going and with a positive attitude towards it! I’ve played cricket before with my adoptive family (long story). It’s a pretty interesting and fun game. I’ve never played it before until I met them.

  • Kerri says:

Happy New Year, Kya! It’s so amazing that you talk about 2013 in a positive light, regardless of everything you had to go through. This year will be better! Siriusly. :) Holy sweet lemon pie! You watched a lot of movies! That’s almost one per day! I wonder how many you’re going to get to this year? :p

  • Nicole says:

I hope Mr. Poo had a Merry Christmas. :)

  • Jessica says:

I am not sure how well this will work – I’m using my phone to comment and it only rotates the screen when it wants. :p Anyhow, I ‘m glad that you have found friends who’ll stand by you despite all the craziness of life. I hope that 2014 only brings you the good things, memories worth savoring, and plenty of opportunities to pursue your dreams. *hugs*

  • Daphne says:

Control your Malfoy men, will you? I don’t appreciate traitors coming over and pestering me!

  • Sydney says:

I’m sorry to hear your 2013 wasn’t as great as you wish it had been, but I’m proud of you that you’re looking at it with a more positive attitude and moving forward into 2014 with your chin up. I hope you had a wonderful New Year! (You were way, way ahead of me; I live on the West Coast of the USA so we were one of the last ones to turn into the new year.)

I’ve never played Cricket before since I’ve never been outside of America and I’ve never met a person who actually plays it. I’m interested in the game though. :P It looks like a lot of fun. The sunset looks absolutely beautiful; I wish our skies looked as pure as that.

I’ve never read The Boy In the Striped Pajamas. :/ I’ve heard a lot about it but never got around to it. I’m not one for tear-jerkers or books that I know are going to make me feel all sorts of super emotional feels. Not my sort of thing, I guess. Glad you enjoyed it. :) You watched a ton of movies, too! Wow, oh wow.

  • Hans says:

I am bring your site back, I vould be thinking. Yeah. Those other vizards don’t know how to act. Yeah.

  • Micole says:

OMG, what is this place? Wow, this is so different from where I am from, Canada… Well, actually, not really.. I mean, it is white and stuff. LOL.

  • Veronica says:

This string of comments is rather interesting… :P hahaha.

And all those movies you watched, wow! I wouldn’t be able to pick a favorite probably out of all the ones I watched. But I also do love that song by Macklemore, it’s really touching. The girl who accompanies him in the song also has her own version, which is truly lovely and inspiring as well.

    Have a great 2014!

  • Tracy says:

    Have a good 2014!
“The Hundred-Year-Old Man…” – yeah, I have to read this. So many people say it’s good :)

  • Faiz says:

I’m for all the losses you had in 2013. It’s never easy, especially to lose a friend under those circumstances. And may 2014 be as you hope.

I think it’s beautiful that you get to spend such quality time with your parents. Though I’m close with my parent I can’t remember the last time I played a sport with them.

And I’m slightly jealous that you have all that time to read those books and see those movie! :) I wish we all had more time.

  • Ang says:

It sounds like you had a pretty challenging year in 2013 and I’m glad you had friends to help you through it. I hope 2014 is a bit brighter for you and you’re able to accomplish the goals you’ve set out for yourself. Good luck!

  • Sandy Nene says:

    Happy new year darling!

  • Tim says:

That is so many films to see in a single year! Even counting rewatches of films I’ve watched prior, I honestly don’t think I got to 100 last year. That’s a lot of movie time.
