New Domain TLDs are here! :D

In case you didn’t know, this year has seen an exciting event take place in the online world. Many new domain extensions TLDs (top level domains) are becoming available for registration. Some of the already available for registration include; .gallery, .email, .photos, .directory, .photography and .graphics (with many many more).

We should all be rather familiar with .com, .net and .org but soon we might all be using .blog for our sites too. I think this is really exciting because with many more different types of TLDs being out there, it means that we can have greater sites build to specific interests. For instance, if you’re a photographer you might use a .photography, .photos or .gallery.

Even though there are many serious or ‘target specific’ TLDs (think .tattoo, .management) there are also many that you can have fun with and be creative with too (like .today, .voyage).

Maybe it’s just for the fact that I do have a domain problem and like looking at them…. >.<

So, what are my favorites so far, and what am I looking forward to most? This could change over time, but right now:

So far I like: .gallery the most
Looking forward to: .blog, .cloud, .dot (xD), .free, .host, .love, .mail (I like this better then .email) and .web

What about you? Are you into domains or considering any of the new ones? :)

I have also been updating my domain inspiration list with new ideas when I think of them.

47 Domains for sale

I have decided to cut costs, and sell some domains that I have been hanging onto for some time. These were less popular domains used for hosting on Bubble, I think they are still pretty awesome though. If you are interested in any, send me an email to kya@love.com with the domain you are interested in and an offer. Most I would be willing to sell for $5 or less, so don’t be afraid to send an offer. Payment should be made via PayPal! :3

$9 Threadless Bonanza!

Threadless has been tricky and had a $9 sale again. (I love them for their awesomeness, seriously I do). So, I had to buy a few shirts. Only eight this time, compared to the waaaay to many I brought last time. I did buy the piggy bank tee again as a gift for the Mummy who loved the design. :3

I also brought two new domains, tale.nu (will be for writing) and kitten.nu (domain connective). Now I just need to start working on them. 4_4

Geek Thursday: Domains & LJ

.IM Domains
Those who are familiar with current events on Bubble will know I recently purchased some .im domains with some very short, cute, awesome names; balloon.im, duck.im and kitty.im! I don’t know why, but I have found that I like the .im domains, something about them is cute and delicious. Maybe because there are huge amounts of great names available, or they are only 10.95 on name.com for the first year. I know they are not that popular with everyone I just personally like them and if you can snag a nice name as good as kitty and some of the others I have found I think it’s great. I may just have continue on the hunt for more. Bwahaha.

New Domains..
I am thinking about registering one or two new .nu domains for myself. One for a domain collective (I miss having one, and I have many people asking where it’s gone) and another for maybe a design website or a place to share pixels, layouts and goodies. I am just kind of stuck on what names I want at the moment, I like to find a name that I really adore, rather then grow into some names. I have a list, but while I really like many of the names on it, I need the WOW factor. :P Hopefully I will have an update with the name/s soon!

I have been geeking it out on LiveJournal lately too. Mainly finding and renaming some of my older journals to some simple, funky names that had been purged in the ‘great removal’. I missed out on Cupcake though, bummer. :( Bum, Fluff, Starr, Gal, Noodle and Ladybugs are the renames I have, with Gal being my main account. I kind of wish Noodle was, but then I might use that name for something else, so I decided not too. Silly.

Geek Thursday: Top Level Domains

Currently there are a growing number of TLDs available for us to choose from (.com, .net, .org, .me, .info and many more), however I would like to see more. I do believe that in the future we will have a bigger variety and may even be able to register the TLDs ourselves instead of domains for them, which would be a very exciting prospect (dibs on .kya :D ). There are a number of TLDs that I would like to see available, some of these include; .fan, .love, .cute (: D), .geek(*), .web(*) and .blog.

I believe that the registration of domains themselves should be cheaper. Over time the price of domains has been reduced (I paid $80 for my first domain, it was my fault for going with a dud register and I did not know as much as I do now) and while the price varies from register to register some have been increasing their prices lately which I find quite frustrating. For a domain, a name that is only ours for a year (or more) the price in my opinion should not be $7 – $10 it should be 50c – $1. This probably seems like a rather dramatic difference (in some ways) and would mean more people would have domains and less names would be available. Really though things should change and I am sure they will. On the other hand I do understand the domain registers are running a business and they have to keep afloat with the fees from the domain gods (ICANN).

For years I have registered domains with Namecheap.com (since 2005) but lately I have been considering finding another register, one that would give me more options (because of the amount of names I register). Godaddy.com seems like a likely option because they do have cheaper prices and also an option to join a program where you pay a yearly fee and receive reduced domain registration prices which is really appealing to me. I’ll take some time to really think it through.

What TLDs would you like to see available?
Are you happy with the current prices of domain names?
What do you think is a fair price for domain registrations?
Where do you register your domains?
