Twenty Nine

Today I turned 29 and while it is a weird age to consider that your 20s are almost over, I think I am mostly okay with that.

I have never been one to let age define who I am, and that is probably why turning 29 is not that big of a deal. I think sometimes when the number begins to grow larger you start to contemplate all the things you wanted to do by a certain point in time, or the expectations that you have for yourself.

I am happy that I am finally doing the things that I want to do. Studying at University, devoting time to creative pursuits (like digital art, and finishing my first book last year) as well as focussing on my health, both mental and psychical. I feel positive about the future, and that is something I have not been able to say for a long time.

I spent my birthday finishing off as much as I could in the kitchen. But unfortunately I have ran out of paint for the walls, ceiling, doors and skirting. I have to wait until Monday before I can get some more, but hopefully by Tuesday I can have it finished so it doesn’t interfere with Uni (which starts Monday). It will also be nice to have a ‘kitchen’ back again.  ou3uo

Mum and Dad brought me a new camera. But I decided to wait until Dad is home before opening it. I am not 100% sure what ‘number’ it is, but do know it’s a Canon entry level DSLR, so it would be an upgrade from my old 500D. Several months ago I ‘borrowed’ my Dads but he wanted it back and I think he got the idea then, to get me a new one. :camera:

Questions:
1. How old did you turn on your last birthday?
2. How did/do you feel about it?
3. What type of camera do you have?

  • Happy Birthday! I hope you have fun with the camera :) I turned 32 last year and I was ok with it. 30 wasn’t a great year, I felt like I just hadn’t accomplished anything in my 20’s and was starting all over again. Fortunately, I got things together pretty quickly :)
I don’t own a camera :P just my phone. I am a bit too lazy to lug a dslr around.

  • Happy birthday! I turned 31, hahaha! I feel so old even though I tell myself that age is just a number. I think it’s great you’re doing so much good stuff for yourself! And yay for a new camera! I hope you get a lot of usage with it! Wishing you all the best for your 29th year, Kya!

  • You’ll have to show us the kitchen when it’s done! I really want to see it now. And happy belated birthday!

I’m 19, so my teenage years are almost over, thank god. Not that I think my 20s are going to be that much better – I still feel very teenage in some ways. But I guess I’m at uni, eventually I’ll have a job, and I am living independently which has its perks.

My camera is my phone, haha. It’s not bad though!

  • Honestly, I don’t remember my last birthday all that much, heh. I turn 30 this year and it will probably be forever etched into my memory.

  • Happy birthday! And yay for a new camera!

And it sounds like you’re in a really good place right now. Keep it up! :D

  • 1. How old did you turn on your last birthday?
    22!!! I still can’t believe it. I’m almost 23. This is crazy!

    2. How did/do you feel about it?
I think I answered it above, disbelief.

    3. What type of camera do you have?
My phone. Lol I’m not that much of a photographer so my phone works just fine. :)

    HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! :) <3
Good luck finishing the kitchen and with Uni. :)
    Congrats on the new camera!

  • I turned 26 last year, and soon I’ll be 27 in August. Happy belated birthday =) I’m getting old. LOL

    My Nexus 5 camera~!

  • Happy belated birthday! What a lovely gift from your parents!!! I have a lovely mirrorless Panasonic Lumix G6 that I bought in November, I love it dearly. The only thing I miss for it now is a macro lens. I used to use Canon but I’m selling all that gear.
I turned 42 recently but I’ve stopped caring, lol. I call myself old as freak and mostly just joke about it. I have some plans to make my life less stressful and I’ll be fine .

  • Happy Belated Birthday!! I turned 34 in January, once you hit the big 3-0 the rest of the thirties are nothing special :) I have a Canon MK 5 and a few great lenses but I didn’t use it in months… probably a year+. I invested into a Sony-DSC RX 100 III, it’s so nice and small and I take all the baby photos with it.

  • Thanks. It seems to be getting better now that I’m drinking water and resting a bit (as I don’t have to work). Which is good. Good time for me to be coming down with anything with it being Spring Break here and all. I can more easily rest and relax than I can the week before or the 2 weeks after.

I fixed the pictures. Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks so much! I also emailed you about Hostwish. ;)

Happy Birthday Kya!!! ?? I’m glad you’re in a more positive place and doing the things you’ve wanted to, that’s always good!

Are you going to post photos of the kitchen renovation when it’s all done?

I turned 25 on my last birthday and I’m okay with it. I still feel young but I’m happier to be closer to the age I want children, haha. I have a Canon something but I always end up using my camera phone. ?

  • Yay, happy birthday! How fun to get a new camera :D

My birthday is only a couple of weeks away actually, so I’ll turn 33 soon. It still feels a bit weird to say I’m in my thirties rather than twenties, but I’m getting used to it.

And my camera is my phone, lol. I’m thinking about buying a real camera, but I haven’t decided yet.

  • Happy 29th! Enjoy that DSLR. :)

  • Happy Birthday! I’m glad that you’ve found happiness in doing things you’ve been wanting to do for a while. I hope everything is going well with uni and it’s definitely very important to maintain a healthy mind and body. These are things we usually take for granted so it’s nice to be focused and make it essential for your well-being.

Hope you enjoy the new camera! Looking forward to seeing photos on the blog :)

  • Happy birthday! I know how you feel. I can’t believe I’m in my thirties. Time goes by so fast. People look at me and ask if I’m 15. When I tell them my age, they tell me that I don’t look that age. I guess it’s because I look so young. When I go into places for adults, people look at me as if I’m not supposed to be in there. People say age is just a number. You’re right. You shouldn’t let age define who you are.

I can’t wait to see the kitchen when you finish it. Canon is a good brand. We have a Canon VIXIA camcorder at work. A lot of people like it.

    Questions:
    1. How old did you turn on your last birthday? 31
    2. How did/do you feel about it? It was okay. Another year, another birthday.
    3. What type of camera do you have? None

  • Happy 29th birthday, Kya! I think as long as you’re progressing in life, aging is not a problem- and also when you don’t define age as who you are.

Hope you’ll get the finishing touches on your kitchen done and enjoy your new camera!

I turned 21 last year, and it was great because I can have all of the alcohol I want now X’D. I don’t really use a camera but if I do, I use my boyfriend’s entry level Canon.

  • Belated happy birthday! I’m glad you’re in a good place, and I wish you many more awesome years! I can’t wait to see the kitchen when it’s done. :D I’ve loved your bedroom renovation!

I turned 27 last July. It was a quiet birthday. I’m starting to feel old. I can’t keep up with everything all the young’ins are doing. XD

  • Belated Happy Birthday Kya! nVn Keep that childlike spirit in you! Stay passionate in the things you love and keep on appreciating the little things in life.

It’s great to know you’ve been doing things that make you happy. I’m looking forward to seeing you cross more things off of your bucket list.

    1. How old did you turn on your last birthday?
    23. I feel old haha… It’s strange, really. People I know are having babies and getting married.

    2. How did/do you feel about it?
It’s weird. If it were up to me, I’d like to be a kid forever and ever. But since I can’t stop the aging, I choose to remain a kid-at-heart for as long as I live.

    3. What type of camera do you have?
I use my brother’s Canon 600D DSLR sometimes. But I admit, I’m not big on photography. Most of the time I just use my phone to take photoss.

  • Happy (un)birthday! I turned 29 in December and it freaked me out a little bit – I think I need to adopt your approach :D

  • Happy birthday! (belated now but, I love you lots Kya! <3 ) I hope you had a lovely day, thank you for being awesome! :') I'm so glad to hear youre feeling much more positive about the future!
    1. How old did you turn on your last birthday? 19 – I'm 20 this year ;)
    2. How did/do you feel about it? Happy, I love growing up, feeling more mature and learning from my mistakes! :D
    3. What type of camera do you have? I have the Sony A5000 at the minute :D

  • Happy belated birthday, Kya!

I turned 24 this past October and I’m at that age when I really start questioning my age. Am I really 24? Already? It doesn’t feel like I’m already 24…

I use a point-and-shoot film camera. Nothing fancy. I’ve thought about getting a digital camera, but I already have a hard time taking photos on film (I always use my iPhone instead…).

  • Happy belated birthday! With you mentioning that you’re 29, that means I’m 10 years-ish older than you. :x

    1. As mentioned above, I turned 39 last October, so my last year in the 30s and entering the 40s.

    2. Actually, in the beginning, I was a little scared because my mom’s side of the family has a really bad history of some women not making it past 39. I had an aunt and a cousin who died of aneurysm at age 39 during my past lifetime, so ever since their deaths, I was going nuts about maintaining my health and eating right and having plenty of movement (exercise) as much as I can, especially that I’m diabetic. (Diabetes is also genetic on my mom’s side too. My mom has diabetes as well.) I still feel a little paranoid right now, so while I’m doing what I can to maintain my health as much as I can, I also pray for good health as well. On the other hand, my late cousin’s sisters all made past 39, so I have high hopes. Yes, I’m somewhat superstitious like that.

    3. I used to like DSLRs in the past. Actually, I like SLRs in the past during college days, but then I’ve gotten lazy as of late. I currently own an Olympus E-PM2 mirrorless micro 4/3rds camera with 2 interchangeable lenses. But then I mostly take photos using my Android phone though (HTC One M8 – they have a pretty good camera though) for Instagram and the likes. I do what I can to use my camera more often though when I can.

Happy (belated) Birthday Kya! Your birthday is so close to mine :D Mine was on the 13th! I think that’s great that you don’t let your age define you. I feel like some people obsess over it too much. I’m glad that you’re happy with where you are in your life!

I actually just turned 31, and well, I feel the same way. I don’t let the number bother me. That’s exciting that your parents got you a new camera! The one I currently use is the Canon 6D, and I still have my Canon 50D around as a spare. I really love the 6D!

  • Happy belated birthday, Kya! :D 29 is a sweet age, I feel, so close to a new decade and so many plans for your life. I feel the -9s remind us there’s always time to grow and do new things in life.

I turned 30 last June, so I’ll be 31 this year. I jokingly say that “oh, I’m so old!” but the truth is I don’t really care; I feel the same kid-at-heart I’ve always been, so what changed? Nothing. I’m only more mature and responsible and that’s a very good thing. The only difference, if anything, is that I realize I have less time than when I was 20 to say “oh, I have so many years ahead of me to get this big project done!”; well, not as many now. :D But it’s good! Big push to get things done.

I have a cheapy camera, so I mostly use my smartphone camera to take photos/rec videos.^^

Hope you had a great birthday! I turned 23 last year, which is strange ’cause I don’t feel grown-up enough to be 23 yet. I still feel like some people treat me like I’m a child haha.

I don’t think it matters what you’ve done by what age. If you’d have REALLY wanted to do something at the time, you would have done it, and as long as you did what made you happy at the time that’s all that matters.

I have some kind of Olympus. It’s not the best camera, but I’m not that great at taking photos anyway. I’m not worthy of fancy cameras yet!

  • Happy Birthday!!!!!!! :cake: <3 You're still very young! Have fun and enjoy your new camera!
    My birthday's next month! (:

  • Liv

Happy birthday! I think the whole I-must-do-this-by-age-__ thing just burdens us into thinking more about the goal rather than the doing part! :) I think you’re doing great because you pursue the things you want rather than trying to figure out every bit of your future. And that’s what makes your future great and interesting! :)

I turned 23 last birthday and I was terrified because I thought I haven’t accomplished anything while my friends were miles ahead. :( But then I got better through my faith! I have a Canon DSLR with a 50 mm lens! IT’S AMAZING

  • HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY KYA!

I always associate 29 as the “forever age,” the age that people always say they are even when they are a lot older than that. I agree that age is only a number, and it made me so happy to read about you finally doing the things that you want to do. I think a lot of people view age as a checklist and want to complete certain things by a certain age, but that shouldn’t be the way to live.

What a great present! I’ve been eying a lot of the entry-level DSLRs because photography is something that I would love to be able to do more of, and I think a better camera would definitely give me the motivation. I currently have an old Canon point and shoot, but I don’t really use it anymore since my phone takes about the same quality pictures.

  • Hope you had a great birthday! :) It’s nice that you’re feeling optimistic about your future. It’s always good to live and have something to look forward to, instead of dreading the upcoming years.

    1. How old did you turn on your last birthday?
    – 22!

    2. How did/do you feel about it?
    – A lot of people who reach this age look and act like adults already, and for a while there I was thinking what the hell was wrong with me. LOL.

    3. What type of camera do you have?
    – I use a Samsung NX300 :)

  • Glad you had a lovely birthday :D

I’d love a camera, but I can’t afford to and if I could I’m not sure I would use it enough.

I’m 30 in July, I’m not looking forward to it because I feel like I’ve not met any life goals. Which is silly, because people evolve at different rates.

  • I am sooooooo proud of you. I know you as someone who has never let age define you, and you never let that get in the way of what you want to do, or what you love doing. As I get older, I also keep thinking that age is just a number and I should not be upset if I don’t do something in particular until I am older. The real youth is in living it!

I hope you got a good camera!!!!!! I have a 6D. It was stupid expensive. ?

  • I hope you had a happy birthday! It sounds like it was fairly good! New camera is always pretty sweet!

My next birthday I’ll be 32, it’s coming up pretty soon.
It took me a while to get used to my thirties, but I’m good with it now. :D
I have a SonyRX100. It’s sort of a hybrid of a point and shoot, but it has a large senser.
